Stock Market News: Due to increasing geopolitical tensions and continuous selling pressure by foreign investors, there was a sharp decline in the domestic stock markets on Tuesday. Due to heavy selling in shares of major companies, BSE Sensex fell 1,065.71 points or 1.28 percent to close at 82,180.47 points, while NSE Nifty fell 353 points or 1.38 percent to 25,232.50 points.
At one time the Sensex had slipped by more than 1,235 points during trading. This was the second consecutive trading day when the market closed with weakness. According to market experts, adverse global cues, weakness of the rupee against the US dollar and withdrawal of foreign institutional investors had a negative impact on investor sentiment.
Why is the market falling?
1- Among the Sensex stocks, Eternal, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Indigo, Trent, Asian Paints and Mahindra & Mahindra fell the most, while HDFC Bank was the only stock which closed with gains. According to the data, FIIs sold shares worth Rs 3,262 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 4,234 crore.
2-There was a weak trend in Asian and European markets also. Market experts say that the increasing uncertainty over US President Donald Trump’s tariff policy and the threat of additional duties on European countries have increased instability in the global markets, whose direct impact was also seen on the Indian stock market.
3-Market experts say that in the current situation, investors are adopting a very cautious attitude and are waiting for the future direction to be clear.
4- According to Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments, the decision of the US Supreme Court regarding the tariff policy of US President Donald Trump is yet to come, due to which there is uncertainty on this policy.
5-He said that due to continuous withdrawal of foreign capital and ongoing weakness in the rupee, the sentiment of investors towards the market has been greatly affected. Especially the pressure is clearly visible in mid and small cap stocks and there is a negative trend in almost all the sectors, due to which there is an atmosphere of weakness in the market at present.
