‘Should have talked to Birla once before the notice’, Abhishek Banerjee said on the no-confidence motion of the Lok Sabha Speaker.

There is an uproar amid the budget session of Parliament over the opposition parties bringing a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee has given a big statement. He said that TMC has no problem in signing the notice related to bringing no-confidence motion against Om Birla, but before taking any such big step, the opposition parties should have once met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and expressed their grievances.

TMC MP in Lok Sabha from Diamond Harbor, West Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee talked to the media about this in the Parliament complex on Tuesday (February 10, 2026). He said that Om Birla should have been given a chance before the opposition brought a proposal to remove him from the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.

Opposition submitted notice against Lok Sabha General Secretary Om Birla

In fact, the opposition led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has submitted a notice to the Lok Sabha General Secretary regarding bringing a no-confidence motion to remove Om Birla from the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. In the notice given to the House General Secretary, the opposition has accused Om Birla that he runs the proceedings of the House in a biased manner, makes false allegations against Congress Party MPs and misuses his position.

Om Birla should be given three days- Banerjee

Abhishek Banerjee said, ‘All 28 TMC MPs will sign the notice issued for the no-confidence motion. There is no problem in this, but before taking such a big step, we want that all the parties of the India Alliance should write a letter to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and in that letter the opposition should mention in detail all the four issues on which they have objection. For this they should be given three days’ time.

He said, ‘If no satisfactory response is received from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on these issues in those three days, then a no-confidence motion can be brought against him.’
