Madhya Pradesh Government is going to change the name of Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV) and divide it into three parts. As soon as this news came to light, Congress got angry at the BJP government and accused it of erasing the history of the state. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has now reacted to this and said that it is not appropriate to remove the name of former Prime Minister and architect of the technological revolution Rajiv Gandhi in this manner.
Digvijay Singh wrote in a post on Facebook, ‘Political differences have their place, but it is not appropriate to remove the name of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of the country and the architect of the technological revolution. I urge Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to keep the name of RGPV as it is. There is a need to respect the history and contribution, not to erase them.

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh further wrote, ‘Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi did the historic work of strengthening the foundation of technical and modern education in India. In Madhya Pradesh, our government established ‘Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV)’ in the year 1998 in honor of his contribution, which is today the largest technical university in the state. Changing the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV)’ is not appropriate.
Leader of opposition had also expressed objection
Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Umang Singhar had also objected to this and said that BJP can erase history, but the country can never forget the contribution of Rajiv Gandhi. He had said that changing the name of the university will neither make it better, nor will the youth get jobs, nor will the quality of education improve. Let us tell you that there is a discussion on changing the name of RGPV, which provides degrees in engineering and other subjects to lakhs of students across the country, but no official announcement of the new name has been made. It will be divided into three parts – Bhopal, Jabalpur and Ujjain so that the management of engineering colleges can be better.
