The Board of Control for Cricket in India has today announced Team India for the matches against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill has been given the command of ODI and Test team. KL Rahul has been made the vice captain in Test whereas Shreyas will take up this responsibility in ODI. There is no separate fixed salary for the captain in Indian cricket. The captain also gets money under the same central contract system in which other players are involved. Every year BCCI divides players into different grades and gives annual amount accordingly.
How are the grades?
The highest grade is A+. Players falling in this grade get Rs 7 crore annually. After this, Grade A gets Rs 5 crore, Grade B gets Rs 3 crore and Grade C gets Rs 1 crore annually. If the captain is in A+ grade, he will get Rs 7 crore. If he is in A grade, then Rs 5 crore. That means the amount is decided by grade, not by captaincy.

Know about match fees
Now let’s talk about match fees. Whenever a player plays a match, he gets fees according to each format. Around Rs 15 lakh are paid for a Test match, around Rs 6 to 7 lakh for an ODI and around Rs 3 lakh for a T20 match. This fee is given equally to the captain and the rest of the playing-11 players. If a player is in the squad but is not playing in the playing-11, then he gets about half of this fee. That means, if Shubman Gill is the captain and any other player is playing in the same match, then both will get equal match fees.
Opportunity for new faces
BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the ODI series against Afghanistan from June 14 to 20. Shubman Gill has been made the captain, while Shreyas Iyer has got the responsibility of vice-captain. Along with this, the team was also announced for a test match series, in which KL Rahul has been made the captain. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested and three new faces Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar have got a chance.
