Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump had a short meeting on Tuesday during the G7 summit in Evian, France. This was the first face-to-face meeting of the two leaders in about one and a half years. Modi and Trump were seen shaking hands warmly and after that they also talked for a while. 1- During the photoshoot, both PM Modi and Trump tried to ignore each other. The bitterness after Operation Sindoor was visible. However, both of them wanted to see who would take the initiative to extend their hand.
2- All the leaders of the G7 summit were surprised when British Prime Minister Keir Starmer bypassed Trump and met Modi and both hugged.
3- PM Modi finally took the initiative to shake hands with Trump when he went to the hall after the photoshoot. Modi moved forward to shake hands because Modi’s seat was exactly next to Trump’s and Trump had taken his seat first. Modi came from behind, but did not hug.

4- PM Modi and Trump talked for a few minutes before the formal start of the summit. What to say, she was very private. No one knows except the interpreter.
5- After the meeting, information was received that PM Modi raised the issue of attack on a ship in the Gulf of Oman and death of sailors.
6- In the summit, France gave Modi a place equal to Trump, whereas India is not a permanent member of G7. This place once belonged to Russian President Putin – when the G7 summit used to be G-8, but after capturing Crimea, G7 had expelled Russia from this elite group in 2014. In such a situation, the world has started speculating whether the name G8 will be changed again by giving India a permanent place in this group. One place next to the US President is for the head of state of the host country, while the other side is for the head of state of the next most powerful country after America.
PM Modi’s taunt on Trump’s policies
Apart from this, what PM Modi had said in his address was that ‘in today’s world, the most important strategic asset is neither minerals, nor technology nor markets, but mutual trust.’ This was also a sarcasm regarding Trump and America’s policies.
