Application for UPSC main exam starts, portal will remain open till June 28

There is good news for the candidates who were successful in the CSE Prelims examination conducted by UPSC. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has started the application process for Civil Services Mains Examination 2026. Candidates who have passed the prelims exam will now be required to fill the DAF between June 19 and June 28, 2026.

All successful candidates will have to re-verify their information by logging into the official portal and submit the required details. Meanwhile, facilities for depositing examination fee, updating information related to scribe (writing assistant), registering demand for assistive devices and filling cadre preference have also been provided.

According to media reports, more than 13 thousand candidates have passed the prelims exam this year. Now these candidates will be required to fill the detailed application form.

What will be the fee?

General category candidates will have to pay examination fee of Rs 200. Whereas women, SC, ST and physically handicapped (PwBD) category candidates have been exempted from fee. UPSC has made it clear that the candidates who do not submit the DAF within the stipulated time limit will not be allowed to appear in the Civil Services Main Examination 2026. E-admit cards will also be issued only to those candidates who have completed the application process.

Main examination will start from 21st August

Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 will be conducted from 21 August 2026. There will be a total of 9 papers in the exam. Of these, two papers of Indian language and English will be only qualifying, while the merit will be prepared on the basis of total 1750 marks of seven papers.

These seven papers will include one Essay, four papers on General Studies (GS-I, GS-II, GS-III and GS-IV) and two papers on Optional Subject. Candidates successful in the main examination will be called for personality test (interview) of 275 marks. For more details, candidates can take help of the official site.

Easy way to fill DAF

  • First of all candidates go to the official website of UPSC.
  • After this login with your registration details.
  • Now check personal and educational information.
  • Then update the reservation and category information.
  • After this fill the cadre preference carefully.
  • Provide information about scribe or assistive devices if needed.
  • Now candidates should deposit the application fee.
  • Check the complete information and submit the form.
  • Download the confirmation page and keep it safe.
  • Download e-admit card before the examination.
