Amidst the ongoing tension with America, is everything not going well in Iran? A report has revealed major divisions in the Iranian government. It is being claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf have together started preparations to remove Foreign Minister Abbas Arachi from the post. There has been no official reaction from the Iranian government on this matter, but this controversy has created a stir in the politics of Tehran.

What is the claim in the report?

According to the report of ‘Iran International’, a British media outlet, Araghchi has been facing serious allegations. The allegation is that Araghchi is running the Foreign Ministry independently instead of making it accountable to the President’s Office. It is being claimed that the Foreign Minister is following the instructions of the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) instead of official cabinet policies.

‘Foreign Minister is taking decisions without informing the President’

According to the report, ‘President Pezeshkian believes that during important diplomatic discussions, Foreign Minister Araghchi has sided with the army (IRGC) instead of the government. He has reportedly made it clear that if this situation continues, he will remove Araghchi from the post. Sources claim that Araghchi is working as an ‘ally’ of Revolutionary Guard commander Ahmed Vahidi and implementing his strategies without informing the President.

It is being claimed that Araghchi is running the Foreign Ministry independently instead of making it accountable to the President’s Office. If reports are to be believed, the President has also been stripped of the right to make new appointments in place of government officials killed in the war.

According to Iran International, this protest in the parliament started when Parliament Speaker (Speaker) Ghalibaf resigned from the post of head of the negotiating team. He had to take this step because he was reprimanded for trying to include nuclear energy issues in the talks. After the Speaker’s departure, Foreign Minister Aragchi himself went to Islamabad alone and made a proposal, but the US President rejected that proposal outright.
