Today (Monday, July 20) is the 23rd day of Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite fast demanding accountability of NEET paper leak, resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and changes in the country’s education system. Geetanjali Angmo, wife of Sonam Wangchuk, admitted in Safdarjung Hospital, had informed that she has not been fed anything by the doctors, hence her fast is continuing. However, today Sonam Wangchuk can end her fast on certain conditions. Meanwhile, a peaceful Parliament march is proposed by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) today itself, on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament. The police have not given permission for this march and section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) has been imposed in the area. Despite this, preparations for the march are in full swing. Now it remains to be seen what happens in Delhi today.
While issuing guidelines, Abhijeet Dipke’s CJP has appealed to those participating in the march that there will be no place for violence in this march. Neither should anyone do wrong nor should anyone be allowed to do wrong. However, CJP had not sought permission for this march from the police. A day before the proposed march (Sunday, July 19), Delhi Police had made public the information that Section 163 had been imposed in every part of New Delhi district except the designated protest site on Jantar Mantar Road. At the same time, neither any permission has been sought for any proposed march to the Parliament nor has the police given any permission. In such a situation, Delhi Police had appealed to the citizens not to participate in any unauthorized meeting or march and help Delhi Police in maintaining security and peace.

FIR warning against those who violate section 163
Delhi Police has also said that the Parliament session is starting on July 20, hence strict security arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of the general public and important government establishments. Any person violating Section 163 will be prosecuted under Section 223 and other applicable provisions of law.
I will not break my fast before ‘Parliament Chalo March’ – Sonam Wangchuk
Even before the Parliament march, on Monday morning, Sonam Wangchuk has issued a message from the hospital claiming that her fast will be broken only after the ‘Parliament Chalo March’. For this he has also set three conditions. First, either the government itself takes responsibility for the paper leak and failure in the education system. Second, when he or CJP supporters reach the doors of Parliament and the MPs there assure them that the education system will be discussed seriously in the monsoon session. And thirdly, if due to his health he is unable to join the march, then the responsible MP should come to him in the hospital and assure him about this, only then Sonam will end her fast.
How is Sonam Wangchuk’s health?
Popular scientist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is currently admitted in Safdarjung Hospital. On the 21st day of her fast, citing her deteriorating health, Sonam Wangchuk was picked up from Jantar Mantar without her consent and taken to the hospital. Sonam had called it ‘illegal detention’ and said that he was feeling better and did not need hospital. Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali had also claimed that she did not trust Safdarjung Hospital and she wanted to shift Sonam to a private hospital, but the High Court had rejected her petition.
At the same time, the doctors of the hospital informed that Sonam’s vitals are stable, but due to being hungry for so many days, her body has become weak. According to the health bulletin issued till Sunday (July 19) night, Sonam Wangchuk’s condition is stable. However, it has been said that in view of the effects on the body due to the prolonged fast, he will have to be kept under 24-hour medical supervision. All vital physical parameters of Wangchuk are stable and slight improvement has also been recorded in his blood pressure.
Sonam Wangchuk is being looked after by a multidisciplinary team of experts from Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS. Doctors believe that it is important for Sonam to remain under constant supervision of doctors to detect any complication in time and treat it immediately.
