UAE New Pipeline Project: Amid the Middle East war, the Strait of Hormuz has become the world’s most dangerous chokepoint. 20 percent of the global oil supply passes through here but at present this route has been blocked by Iran. Due to this, import and export of crude oil stopped and its direct impact was seen on the price of fuel. But now the United Arab Emirates i.e. UAE has found a solution to this. What is the masterplan of UAE?
The UAE is now building a new pipeline from the west to the east coast, bypassing Hormuz. With the opening of the new pipeline, the oil export capacity from Fujairah will double. The Habshan-Fujairah pipeline, which currently carries 18 lakh barrels of oil daily, will be able to carry 18 lakh barrels of oil daily.

When will the new pipeline start?
Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, directed Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to accelerate the West-East Pipeline project during an executive committee meeting. It is expected that this new pipeline will start operating from the year 2027, after which the Strait of Hormuz will be easily bypassed.
What do experts say?
Fujairah is already included in the world’s major oil storage and bunkering hubs. Now after this new project, the oil export capacity from here will increase significantly. Experts believe that this step will further strengthen UAE’s energy security and its hold in the global market. Amidst the increasing tension in the Middle East and concerns about oil supply, the UAE is continuously working on strengthening its energy infrastructure. This project of ADNOC can prove to be a big game changer for the global oil market in the coming times. This will make the UAE less dependent on the Hormuz Route for oil exports and will help in securing the global supply.
