- The Iran war has caused huge damage to America’s defense budget.
- America lost military aircraft and drones worth billions of dollars in this war.
- Radar and defense systems destroyed by Iranian attacks, security at risk.
- War cost crosses $200 billion, oil prices rise.
In modern wars, victory and defeat are now decided not only on the ground but also by the huge bills of the defense budget. The ongoing military tension with Iran in 2026 has broken America’s belief that it will overcome the enemy with less loss. From a single drone worth Rs 2,000 crore to state-of-the-art radar systems, the price America is paying in this war is shaping up to be one of the costliest chapters in its military history.
Military goods worth billions of dollars destroyed
In this ongoing war with Iran, America’s air fleet has suffered the biggest blow. According to reports, America has lost military aircraft and drones worth billions of dollars between March and April 2026 alone. These include aircraft like F-15E Strike Eagle, A-10 Thunderbolt and the state-of-the-art F-35 Lightning II. Each fighter jet is worth crores, and their downfall has not only caused financial losses but also hurt the ‘invincible’ image of the US Air Force.
Broken back of drone fleet
The most shocking thing about this war is the destruction of American drones in large numbers. In the early weeks of April alone, the US lost 24 ‘MQ-9 Reaper’ drones, worth more than Rs 6,000 crore ($720 million). Apart from this, ‘MQ-4C Triton’ drone worth about Rs 2,000 crore crashed in the Persian Gulf. This drone is so expensive that two F-35 fighter planes could have been purchased for its price. This loss of drones is a major strategic and economic blow for America.
Attack on radar and defense systems
Iran’s missile and drone capabilities have also breached the American security cordon. During the war, Iran has targeted several important American radar systems and satellite terminals. These include radars of advanced missile defense systems like THAAD and early warning radars like AN/TPY-2. Reinstalling these systems is not only costly but also time consuming. The destruction of radar systems is making American bases in the Gulf countries unsafe.

Additional burden of 200 billion dollars on the treasury
The increasing cost of war has increased the concerns of the American government. Reports suggest that by the end of March 2026, the Pentagon had already spent $18 billion for this military operation. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Defense Department has sought additional funds of $ 200 billion (approximately Rs 16.7 lakh crore) from the Parliament. This huge amount will directly burden the pockets of American taxpayers and may push the country’s economy towards recession.
Oil prices and global trade turmoil
Not only at the military level, but also on the economic front, America is indirectly suffering huge losses. Global oil supply has been disrupted due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks by Iran. Crude oil has crossed $120 per barrel, due to which the prices of gas and fuel in America have increased rapidly. This energy crisis has led to inflation, which has reduced the purchasing power of American families.
soldiers’ lives and humanitarian losses
Along with the loss of weapons and money, America is also facing the sorrow of the martyrdom of its soldiers. According to official reports so far, 15 American soldiers have been killed and more than 500 have been injured in this war. Apart from this, many pilots had to eject into enemy territory, whose rescue missions also cost crores of rupees and many other military assets were at stake. Casualty of soldiers is the biggest and irreparable loss for any country.
Huge financial shock of 30 billion dollars
During a podcast of news agency ANI, retired Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor, a former veteran officer of the Indian Air Force, opened the raw account of the loss suffered by America. Sanjeev Kapoor presented a shocking figure during the discussion. According to his assessment, America has suffered a loss of approximately 30 billion dollars (about Rs 2,51,000 crore in Indian currency) in this entire conflict. This amount is so huge that even the annual budget of many small countries is not equal to it. This includes the cost of destroyed military equipment, missiles and the cost of maintaining military deployment in the Gulf region.
