The first T20 match between India and Ireland is today i.e. on 26th June (Friday). The match being played in Belfast is important for Team India in many ways. Men in Blue entered the field under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. This is the first T20 International match for Iyer as captain. Vaibhav Suryavanshi could not make his international debut in this match.
15 year old Vaibhav is part of the Indian squad for the series. The international debut of Vaibhav, who has batted brilliantly in two consecutive seasons of IPL, is being eagerly awaited. If Vaibhav makes his debut today, he will become the youngest player to make his international debut for India. Currently this record is in the name of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at the age of 16. The thing to note is that players younger than Vaibhav have made their debut in international cricket. But now according to ICC rules, a player below 15 years of age cannot play international cricket.
Now the question is also arising that if Vaibhav makes his debut, then who will be thrown out? Vaibhav, who plays in the opening, can cut the card of either Abhishek Sharma or Sanju Samson. All three players are seen playing in the opening. Although Sanju bats at other positions except opening, the team combination may not allow Sanju to bat in the lower order. Now it will be interesting to see what decision the team management takes.
