The journey of IPL 2026 has been no less than a nightmare for Mumbai Indians. The team, which has won the title five times, remained ninth in the points table this time. It got only four wins in 14 matches, while facing defeat in the remaining matches. The team also had to make many changes in captaincy, but the results on the field did not change.
There were many reasons behind this poor campaign, but the most discussed was the performance of the team’s most experienced fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Those who had the biggest responsibility of the bowling attack on their shoulders, did not seem to be in their rhythm this time.

Bumrah played 13 matches in the entire season, but could take only four wickets. In many matches he returned without taking a wicket. Bumrah, who usually changes the course of the match on big occasions, was successful in putting pressure on the batsmen this time, but was seen struggling continuously in taking wickets. If we look at the figures, Mumbai Indians had retained Bumrah for Rs 18 crore this season. He took only four wickets in the entire tournament. In such a situation, the price of one wicket is approximately Rs 4.5 crore. This is the reason why his season became a big topic of discussion.
Bumrah bowled a total of 294 balls in 13 matches and gave 410 runs. His bowling average was 102.50, while his strike rate was 73.50. Meaning, on an average, Bumrah had to bowl more than 73 balls to take one wicket. He could not bowl a spell of two wickets or more even once in the entire season.
However, there was also a positive aspect in his bowling. He spent runs at an economy of 8.37, which is not considered very bad in terms of T20 cricket. But the team had to continuously suffer the loss of not getting wickets, because other bowlers also could not take advantage of that pressure.
IPL 2026 has left many questions for Mumbai Indians. For Bumrah too, this season will be considered one of the most difficult periods of his career. Now everyone’s eyes will be on whether he can bring back his old edge in the next season and bring the team back to the winning path.
