Can a 16 year old boy ever contest elections for the Parliament of any country in the world? This is difficult according to the law, but a boy in Nigeria made such a claim that even the big political party there fell in love with his words. This matter has now become a topic of discussion in the entire country. Mahmood Sadis Buba, popularly known as Abin al-Ajabin Jajau i.e. Wonder of Zaria in Nigeria, had described himself as 30 years old. He claimed that he was suffering from dwarfism, hence his appearance and height looked like a child. Because of this story, he came very close to contesting the Parliament elections. But later, after his real documents came out, the whole matter got overturned.
The controversy started when an interview video of Mahmood on behalf of Nigeria’s major political party All Progressive Congress (APC) went viral on social media. In this video he said that he previously worked as a driver and was born on 2 August 1995. In the video, he told the leaders that he is not contesting the elections on his own will, but the people want him to serve them. People liked this thing of his and he became increasingly popular on social media. Many people started calling him the voice of the common people and the new leader.

What is the age requirement for contesting elections?
According to Nigerian law, a candidate must be at least 25 years of age to contest parliamentary elections. Mehmood showed himself to be 30 years old and almost got the ticket from the party on this basis, but as his popularity increased, some people shared his real documents on the internet. These included his passport, birth certificate, national ID and school records.
The truth became clear as soon as the documents came out.
According to the documents, Mahmood was born in the year 2010. That means he was not 30 years old but only a 16 years old boy. As soon as this was revealed, there was a stir in the entire country. People were surprised to know how such a big political party was going to give election ticket to someone without proper investigation.
The teacher also exposed
The matter became bigger when an old teacher of Mahmood’s school gave a statement in front of the media. The teacher said that he had taught Mahmood in junior high school only a few years ago and he was still a minor. Initially the party termed this matter as a conspiracy by its opponents, but when evidence started coming to the fore, the party was left with no way to defend itself.
The party took a big decision
After the evidence came to light, the APC party immediately suspended Mahmood and declared him ineligible to contest the elections. Later, Mahmood himself withdrew his name from the election by writing a letter to the party president.
fierce discussion on social media
After this matter came to light, different reactions of people are being seen on social media. Some people are expressing surprise at Mahmood’s cleverness, while some are raising questions on the investigation process of political parties. Many people say that if the documents had not been leaked, perhaps a 16-year-old boy would have reached the Parliament elections.
