Now the government and CAQM are preparing to take strict steps to control the increasing pollution in Delhi-NCR. The air of the capital is continuously getting worse and the smoke coming out of vehicles is considered to be a major reason for this. Keeping this in view, a big decision has now been taken, under which only electric three-wheelers i.e. e-auto and e-rickshaw will be promoted in Delhi-NCR in the coming years.
According to the government’s new plan, registration of new CNG, petrol or diesel three-wheeler vehicles will be stopped in Delhi from the year 2027. This means that after 2027, only electric three-wheelers can be registered in Delhi. After this this rule will be gradually implemented in the entire NCR region. This rule is likely to be implemented in cities like Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad from 2028, while by 2029 the entire NCR may come under the purview of this policy.
Decision taken under new EV policy
This decision has been taken under the new EV policy of Delhi Government and the recommendations of CAQM. The government believes that three-wheelers run in large numbers in the city and cause a lot of pollution. If they are converted to electric then there can be a big improvement in air quality. This is the reason why now a plan is being made to convert old CNG autos into electric vehicles phase wise.
In the new policy, strict rules have been proposed not only for three-wheelers but also for two-wheelers and commercial vehicles. According to the report, there may be a ban on registration of new petrol and CNG two-wheelers in Delhi from 2028. Apart from this, the government is gradually working towards making taxis, delivery vehicles and public transport also electric.
How much assistance can be provided?
The government is also preparing to provide financial assistance to those adopting electric vehicles. In the draft EV policy, there is a proposal to provide subsidy on purchasing electric auto and financial assistance on replacement of old CNG auto. With this, there will be no sudden financial burden on auto drivers and they can easily switch to electric vehicles. According to reports, in the initial years, assistance ranging from Rs 30 thousand to Rs 50 thousand can be given on purchasing an e-auto.
Along with this, the government is also emphasizing on increasing charging stations and battery swapping network. Because if a large number of e-autos come on the roads, then strong infrastructure will be required to charge them. The government wants that in the coming time, people should not face any problem in using electric vehicles.
