Personal data of lakhs of students leaked due to negligence of CBSE? Claims on social media raised questions

After the declaration of CBSE board exam results, this time not only marks and merit were in discussion, but a big controversy also arose regarding the security of students’ data. Many such claims surfaced on social media, in which it was said that due to a flaw in CBSE’s digital evaluation system, personal information of lakhs of students could have become public. These claims raised concerns among students, parents and the education world.

The whole matter came into limelight when a young cyber security researcher claimed that CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal had serious security vulnerabilities. According to him, due to some technical glitches it could have been possible for students to access the scanned answer sheets and other information. As soon as this claim came to light, debate started on social media and within no time the matter became a topic of discussion at the national level.

Meanwhile, many students also shared their complaints. Some students said that the scanned answer sheets shown to them were blurry. Some students alleged that some pages of the copy were not visible properly, while others feared that there might be errors in the pages. These complaints further increased the concern of students and parents.

Congress surrounded

The matter even reached political circles. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on social media platform X and described this issue as serious. He claimed that questions have been raised regarding the security of data of lakhs of students and it should be thoroughly investigated. After his statement this issue came into more headlines. Many people asked the question that if there has been such a big mistake in the digital system, then how safe is the confidential information of the students.

What did CBSE say?

However, amid the growing controversy, CBSE came forward and rejected all the allegations. The board clearly said that news like data leak or system hacking is completely misleading. According to CBSE, the link which is being said as evidence of hacking on social media was actually a testing portal. This portal was used only for training and technical testing. Data of actual students was not available in it.

The board also clarified that the main and live system used for examination evaluation is completely safe. According to CBSE, no record related to personal information, answer sheet or examination results of any student has been leaked. The board said that students and parents do not need to pay attention to rumors as the examination system is being conducted safely.

CBSE also said in its statement that the help of experts is being taken to further strengthen the digital evaluation system. The board has started reviewing the system in collaboration with experts and technical institutions related to cyber security.
