So far, more than 30 protesters have been killed in the firing by security forces in this area. At the same time, about 200 people have been injured. Let us first understand POK, the matter is related to independence of 1947.
At the same time, if we talk about POK, then this is the area when British India was divided in 1947. Here the Indian Independence Act gave three options to the princely states. These include joining India, joining Pakistan and remaining independent. The then ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, signed the document of merger with India on 26 October 1947. This document was legally valid under the Government of India Act 1935, Indian Independence Act 1947 and international law. In such a situation, about 560 princely states had signed similar documents without any incident.
The matter worsened when Pakistan sent tribal fighters to this area in October 1947 and also sent its regular army there in May 1948. In such a situation, a ceasefire was reached with the mediation of the UN in 1949. The ceasefire line divided the area. After this, in 1994, a resolution was passed unanimously in both the houses of the Indian Parliament, in which it was clearly stated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. A demand was made that Pakistan vacate the illegally occupied areas.
