After the formation of the new government in West Bengal, news of division of portfolios among ministers has come to light. Dilip Ghosh has been given the responsibility of Rural Development, Panchayat and Livestock Department, while Agnimitra Paul has been given the responsibility of Women and Child Welfare Department. Ashok Kirtaniya has been given the Food Department and Khudiram Tudu has been given the Backward Class Welfare Department. Along with this, Nisith Pramanik has been assigned the North Bengal Development, Sports and Youth Welfare Department. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has kept the Home Department with himself.

These decisions were taken in the first cabinet meeting

In the first cabinet meeting held before this, the government had decided to give land to Border Security Force (BSF) within 45 days for fencing on the India-Bangladesh border. Also, it was announced to implement Ayushman Bharat scheme of the Central Government in the state with immediate effect.

The cabinet also decided that now all new cases in the state will be registered under the Indian Judicial Code (BNS). Apart from this, it was also decided to continue all the beneficiary schemes of the previous government and increase the maximum age limit for government jobs by five years. These decisions taken on the very first day of the new government are being seen as a fast and aggressive administrative agenda of the BJP.

Approved land transfer to SF

“In the backdrop of the ever-changing demography in the border districts of Bengal, our Cabinet approved the transfer of land required to BSF for fencing the border with Bangladesh,” Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said after the first meeting of his cabinet. The Chief Secretary and Secretary of the State Land Revenue Department have been asked to complete the process within 45 days. He alleged that the previous Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government ignored the census-related circular dated June 16, 2025, which was sent by the Office of the Registrar General of India under the Union Home Ministry to the West Bengal government.
