Parastu Ahmadi did a live concert on YouTube in December 2024. In this he sang the Iranian patriotic song ‘Aj Khoone Jawanane Watan’. During this performance, she was wearing a sleeveless dress instead of hijab. This video of his went viral within no time, which was viewed by millions of people. At that time, Parastu Ahmadi and some people working with him were detained, but were later released. However, legal action against him continued.

Human rights activists target Iran

According to the report of euronews, human rights activists say that the punishment given to Parastu Ahmadi is proof that there has been no change in the situation in Iran. Bahar Gandehari, director of America’s Center for Human Rights in Iran, said, ‘Ahmadi’s punishment of 74 lashes is a reminder that the situation of human rights in Iran has not changed at all. Even if the Iranian government is running propaganda to improve its image during the war.

He further said that this difference between the advertisements being shown by the government and the cases being filed against the artists shows how big a difference there is between the claims of the government and the reality.
