LPG Cylinder Rate Today on April 17: After the outbreak of war in West Asia in the month of February, the government increased the prices of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders. In fact, amid tension, prices were increased due to reduction in supply due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. This is an important route for energy supply across the world.

Huge decline in imports

India imports about 60 percent of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and half of its natural gas requirements and countries in West Asia supply a large part of these fuels. However, in the last one month there has been a big decline in both supply and domestic production. Compared to February, the supply of LPG in April has now reduced to almost half. Between April 1 and April 14, India imported only 37,000 tonnes of LPG every day, which was 73,000 tonnes per day in February. Meanwhile, LPG production in the country has also declined by about 10 percent.

Will it take a long time for the supply to stabilise?

In recent times, some claims are being made that it may take up to four years for the supply of LPG in India to stabilize. On this, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has given its clarification calling it misleading and not supported by official data. Meanwhile, despite the reduction in supply, the government has said that the supply of LPG in India remains stable and adequate. The government has also continuously advised the customers to avoid panic booking and accumulating the stock of LPG cylinders.
