FIFA World Cup 2026: The FIFA World Cup has started and it is going to be the biggest football event ever. This time three countries including America, Canada and Mexico are hosting it. There will be matches between teams in 16 cities of the three countries, to watch which more than 50 lakh spectators will reach these cities. Advanced technology will be used to keep an eye on them. It is being told that apart from private security firms, more than 4000 government agencies have been deployed to keep an eye on the stadium, fan zones, team hotel, training site and transport routes, which will monitor the crowd of spectators with the help of technology.
Technology will be used at every nook and corner
According to reports, authorities have deployed facial recognition systems, surveillance cameras, AI-powered monitoring tools and even robot dogs for surveillance. Their job is to keep an eye on the spectators as well as provide security around the stadiums. Drone-detection networks are being created at the places where matches are to be held, which will be able to detect the signals of drones as well as track their flight path. In some cases it can even trace back to the network operator. FIFA’s official technology partner Lenovo has also created an intelligent command center, which with the help of technology will monitor the movement of the crowd and help in support operations.
AI will also be used
AI-powered surveillance system will also be used during the tournament. Facial recognition technology has also been deployed in many stadiums, which will be useful for entry and purchasing cashless goods. Face-based authentication system is being installed in the stadiums of Boston, Miami and Atlanta. Similarly, security robots have also been deployed for security operations. These AI-powered robot dogs are equipped with cameras. Apart from patrolling, they will also capture video feed to help the security agencies.
Why was there a need for so much security?
According to the organisers, these security arrangements have been made to prevent terrorism, cyber threats and ticket fraud. The officials are not only alert regarding physical security but they are also preparing for any possible cyber attack on the ticketing system, stadium screens and transport infrastructure so that any such incident can be prevented before it happens.
