Venezuela Earthquake: Two consecutive powerful earthquakes caused huge devastation in the Latin American country Venezuela in the early hours of Thursday (Indian time). According to officials and monitoring agencies, these earthquakes caused buildings to collapse and extensive damage in many areas, including the capital Caracas. It is being told that this is the most powerful earthquake to hit Venezuela in the last 100 years.
The first earthquake was of 7.1 magnitude
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the first earthquake was of 7.1 magnitude. Its epicenter was west of Moron, a coastal community on Venezuela’s Caribbean coast, about 168 kilometers from the capital, Caracas. This earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of only 13 kilometers from the ground, due to which its impact was felt over a large area.

Second earthquake of 7.5 magnitude occurred after 40 seconds
Only 40 seconds after the first earthquake, a second and more powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred in the same area. The depth of the second earthquake was 10 kilometers and its epicenter was located about 16 kilometers south-west of Moron. These two consecutive shocks further increased the devastation in the affected areas.

Fear of more than 10 thousand deaths
USGS has said in its initial assessment that there is a possibility of massive loss of life and widespread damage in this disaster. According to the agency, the number of dead can reach from 10 thousand to 1 lakh. USGS said that there is a possibility of huge loss of life and widespread destruction and this disaster can affect a large area.
