In the first ODI match played in Dharamshala, Afghanistan’s opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a century in just 48 balls. Gurbaz was washing away all the Indian bowlers with ease. Even though India won the match, Gurbaz broke many big records with his explosive batting. Gurbaz played an inning of 102 runs with the help of 8 fours and 8 sixes. Gurbaz has given the credit for this brilliant innings to Team India coach Gautam Gambhir.

Gurbaz said that the conversation he had with India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir after the Test match in New Chandigarh helped him in improving his shot selection. After the century, Gurbaz told the broadcasters, “After the Test match against India, I had a very good conversation with Gautam Gambhir sir. That discussion really helped me. I worked on those suggestions in the nets and I am very grateful for that guidance. When the Test match was over, I told him that I want to improve my shot selection. He gave some good suggestions and I was able to implement them today. I just tried to play positive and it worked for me.”

Talking about his strategy, Gurbaz said, “I am grateful for this performance. I think the strategy was very simple and easy, just play positive cricket. We knew it was a 25-over game, but I also know my game. I just believed in myself and played for the team. It felt good to contribute.”

The first ODI between India and Afghanistan was played for 25 overs each due to rain. Afghanistan scored 194 runs after playing first. In response, Team India won the match by seven wickets in the 23rd over.
