What did Sanjay Manjrekar say about the removal of Gautam Gambhir-Shreyas Iyer, told because of whom India lost

Criticism of captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir has intensified after Team India’s consecutive T20 series defeats on the tour of Ireland and England. However, former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCI) to find out the real reason for the defeat instead of removing the captain or coach. He says that taking big decisions in haste will not solve the problem.

Manjrekar is not in favor of removing Gautam-Shreyas

Manjrekar said in the video shared on his Instagram, ‘The easiest thing for India would be to remove Gautam Gambhir, remove the captain or remove those players who did not perform well in Ireland and England. This is the easiest way.

He further said, ‘The right decision would be to identify the real reason for India’s failure. The biggest reason is that these T20 matches were played in foreign conditions like Ireland and England.

Questions raised on IPL pitches

Manjrekar said, ‘Our batsmen and the entire team were not properly prepared for these conditions. The reason for this is that the selectors selected the players on the basis of their performance in the IPL.

He further said, ‘IPL presents the Indian batsmen in a way. According to me, the batting conditions of IPL are the easiest. In such a situation, it becomes difficult to understand which batsman will be successful in those conditions where the bowlers also get help.

Advice given to selectors and BCCI

Manjrekar said, ‘The selectors will have to show more wisdom and select such players who can be successful in T20 cricket in Ireland, England and other foreign conditions. Shubman Gill is included among such players.

He finally said, ‘If someone has to be removed, then remove those people who suggested favorable conditions for batsmen to make IPL more popular and commercial. Removing the captain or coach is an easy decision, but not the right decision.
