Every year lakhs of students in the country dream of further studies after 12th, but many times financial problems become the biggest obstacle in their path. Especially for science stream students, it is not easy to bear the expenses of higher education. In such a situation, if you are told that the government is giving a scholarship of Rs 80,000 every year and there is no need to pass any separate competitive examination for this.
INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education is run by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to advance the students in the science field. The objective of this scheme is to encourage such students who want to contribute to the development of the country by becoming scientists in the future.
What is INSPIRE Scholarship?
This is a special scholarship scheme of the Central Government, under which financial assistance of up to Rs 80,000 is given to deserving students every year. This assistance is available to students studying science stream at Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) level. The most special thing about this scheme is that students do not have to give any separate examination for this.
How much scholarship do you get?
Under this scheme, a total of Rs 80,000 per year is given to the students. Of this, Rs 60,000 is sent annually directly to the student’s bank account. This amount is available every month at the rate of Rs 5,000. Apart from this, Rs 20,000 is given separately annually, which students can use on their compulsory summer research projects and scientific activities. This assistance can be provided for a maximum of 5 years, i.e. till the completion of graduation and post graduation studies.
Who can apply?
The age of the student applying for this scholarship should be between 17 to 22 years. Apart from this, the student should be studying science related subjects. If a student’s 12th board exam marks fall in the top 1 percent of students in his state or central board, he can apply.

On the other hand, students who have secured top 10,000 ranks in JEE Main, JEE Advanced or NEET exams are also considered eligible for this scheme. Students taking admission in premier institutes like IISER, NISER, DAE-CBS can also apply. Apart from this, students who have achieved in KVPY, NTSE, JBNSTS or Science Olympiad can also get the benefit of this scheme.

Which students will not get the benefit?
Many students assume that those studying engineering and medicine will also get this scholarship, but it is not so. Engineering, medicine, pharmacy and other professional courses are not included under this scheme. Therefore, before applying, please check the complete eligibility information.
What is the application process?
First of all, the student has to go to the official portal of INSPIRE and create his/her profile. After this, necessary documents related to 12th mark sheet, rank certificate or entrance examination will have to be uploaded. It is also necessary to have a savings account in State Bank of India (SBI) in the name of the student, because the scholarship amount is sent directly to that account.
