The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the alleged misappropriation of donations for Ram temple in Ayodhya has submitted its status report in a sealed envelope to the Supreme Court. This report has been filed following the instructions of the Supreme Court, in which updates were sought regarding the investigation. A three-judge bench headed by CJI Surya Kant, which also included Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana, had directed the SIT to submit the progress report.
The Supreme Court is hearing the petitions in which a demand has been made to conduct a court-monitored investigation by the CBI into the alleged financial irregularities in the donations received by Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Notices have also been issued to the Central Government, UP Government and the Trust. This case is related to allegations that donations given by devotees to the Ram temple in Ayodhya were misused. After these allegations, the Yogi government of UP had formed a 3-member SIT in June to investigate.
Later, several petitioners moved the Supreme Court, alleging financial irregularities in the management of the charity, and demanding a court-monitored CBI investigation. The SIT has submitted a preliminary report to the Uttar Pradesh government and has sought more time to complete its investigation. According to the results of the initial investigation, investigators have found several security and procedural lapses in the handling of donations to the temple. These include unauthorized access to donation boxes and several deficiencies in the counting and monitoring process.
Investigation of the role of those responsible
Let us tell you that till now 8 people have been arrested in this case. Of these, Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav and Manish Yadav were recently sent to 39-hour police custody for further interrogation, while the rest of the accused are still in judicial custody. The SIT is also probing the alleged misappropriation of cash and valuables and the role of those responsible for managing the donations.
