Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Subhendu Adhikari, on Sunday (October 19, 2025) alleged that Trinamool Congress members attacked his car in South 24 Parganas district, where he had gone to participate in Kali Puja and Diwali celebrations. ‘I am not afraid of fundamentalists’

The victim’s friend was also arrested
The court of West Bardhaman district of the state sent the victim’s friend to police custody for seven days. This student is a second year student from Odisha. The incident took place outside the private medical college campus in Durgapur on Friday night, when she had gone for dinner with her friend. Six accused have been arrested in this case. Five accused are already in police custody. The victim’s parents had lodged an FIR at New Township police station after the incident.

CM Mamata Banerjee’s request to girl students

After this incident on Friday, questions are being raised on the security arrangements of women in West Bengal. Regarding the incident, CM Banerjee raised the question that how the victim of Durgapur Medical College gang rape case was outside at 12:30 in the night. He urged the girl students not to come out of their hostel or home late at night.

Regarding the matter, the police said that this incident happened on Friday night, when the second year medical college student had gone out for dinner with a friend. A senior police officer informed on Monday (October 13, 2025) that two more accused have been arrested in the case, taking the number of accused to five.

According to the police, the victim had gone out of the college campus to eat with a friend between 8 and 8:30 pm on Friday night. While returning, his companion left him and three unknown youths arrived there. They snatched the student’s mobile phone and dragged her into the forest, where she was gang-raped. The accused threatened him that if he told anything to anyone, he would have to face serious consequences. They also demanded money to return his mobile.

The statement of the victim has been recorded. Police have interrogated his friend and CCTV footage is being scrutinized. Forensic team has been sent to the spot so that evidence can be collected.

National Women Commission team also reached Durgapur
National Commission for Women member Archana Majumdar said that crimes against women are increasing continuously in Bengal and the police is not playing an active role in such cases, which is very unfortunate. He said that the Commission team is going to Durgapur to meet the victim and her family and get in-depth information about the case.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticized those who defended the comment of Peter Navaro, a trade advisor of US President Donald Trump. The Finance Minister called him a friend of imperialists.

Navaro had said that Brahmins are benefiting from buying India’s Russian oil amid Ukraine War. Some people in India said that the tariff of Trump has probably borrowed from the American word Boston Brahmin, which means the old wealth aristocratic class.
