Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the funeral program of the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Diplomatic sources gave this information on Wednesday. The rituals related to Khamenei’s funeral will take place from July 5 to 9. However, India has not confirmed that Prime Minister Modi has received the invitation.

Khamenei ruled Iran for three decades. He was killed in a joint attack on Iran by Israel and America on 28 February. Diplomatic sources said that President Pezeshkian has invited Modi to attend the funeral program. Khamenei’s funeral events will be held in Tehran and Qum on July 5, 6 and 7, while the final event will be held in Mashhad city on July 9.

Foreign Ministry received invitation

The Ministry of External Affairs has received the invitation from Iran. However, it is not yet clear whether Prime Minister Modi will go or not. Along with this, no information has been received as to who can go to Iran from India’s side.

After Khamenei’s death, Mojtaba was made the Supreme Leader

After Khamenei’s assassination, his son Mojtaba Al Khamenei was declared the Supreme Leader of Iran. It is also interesting that in view of its close relations with both America and Israel, India had not expressed any formal objection to the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, although later Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had gone to the Iranian Embassy in Delhi and registered a message of tribute in honor of Ayatollah Khamenei.
